This autobiography tells the story of a small-town boy, raised in a severely broken family with no money, no confidence, and a self-inflicted subpar education. He somehow managed to break from his certain destiny of becoming a lifelong wood product industry employee. It takes you through his childhood, describing how he barely graduated from high school. With the Vietnam War ongoing, he felt before he could start his life, he had to first get his military service out of the way. The decisions he made at 18 set him on a course that by anyone’s expectation was extraordinary.Follow Jim as he completed the Army helicopter training school, eventually becoming his unit's lead combat helicopter pilot while in Vietnam, even though he was barely 20 years old. After completing his military service and thanks to the GI Bill, he started junior college to address his earlier educational failures. Eventually, he received a degree from Oregon State University from the Nuclear Engineering Department. Continue to follow him, as he learned many skills while pursuing his engineering career working at a National Lab, at nuclear power plants, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and eventually ending as the Performance Assurance Manager at a proposed massive vitrification facility at the Hanford site in Washington State. Along the way, he even started a small logging company and logged in Central Oregon for a year. This autobiography is full of interesting life stories spanning his 73 years. Read more
